M is for Musical Muses

"After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is

music."                                                                                                            Aldous Huxley (1894-1963), "Music at Night" 1931.

Whether we listen to it as we write, or just to inspire us, music is a great writing tool. For each WIP I create a playlist and listen to it on repeat. usually the music for certain scenes, characters, moods and emotions.

I have quite varied tastes in music. Two of my favourite bands always make the playlist: Muse and My Chemical Romance. Others include Death Cab for Cutie, Adele, Iron and Wine, 30 Seconds to Mars, Apocalyptica (Amparo suggested their music for my current project. I'm so glad she did!) and Within Temptation.

I also like to listen to classical music for certain scenes. And the instrumental scores from movie soundtracks are great if you don't want lyrics interrupting the flow.

What about you? Any favourite artists, tracks or types of music you like to inspire you?

No surprise that a lot of our music favorites are the same! I love classical music as well as within temptation. I also listen to Lifehouse.

A lot of my favorites are you favorites too. There's no style of music that I don't like.

Within Temptation! Excellent choice. I like Rush, In Flames, Dream Theater, Pantera - you know, heavy and progressive.

OMFG, we are musical SOULMATES. Within Temptation, Muse, MCR, Apocalyptica, 30 Seconds To Mars are ALWAYS in my playlists (even if they don't belong with the character's story)!! Haven't checked out Iron and Wine yet, so I'd better go check them out. :)

Music is a HUGE deal for me. Normally, if I don't have a particular emotion in mind for a scene, I'll listen to Celtic - it drowns out background noise and I can't think as well without it. :) My taste overall though is SO eclectic. Everything from Rihanna to Beethoven to Muse to Mumford and Sons. And beyond. Always beyond. :)

Lindsay, I attach certain songs to my work and it's not even intentional! I can't listen to lyrics when I write, so it's always instrumental on Pandora. By the way, I love your taste in music.

I came by via A to Z Challenge:

I particulary liked this post as I love music and there is always a musical theme to my poetry, I write a poem and try to match a song/tune.
Music is a wonderful way of life and music is my life.
Lovely to have met you.
Enjoy your week-end.
Yvonne.
