Today it's all about me...and you.

Okay, to start today I have to say thanks to the awesome Stina Lindenblatt for giving me this award.

Today is a good day. Last night I stayed up till crazy time (2am, the lunacy) and finished a round of edits on my MS. But I couldn't sleep, I had a creative buzz and needed to finish it.

My heart thumped in my chest as my protagonist reached the end of her adventure and, for a moment, I forgot what the end was.

Oops.

I've taken my time to get to the last few chapters that I got worried. See, that crazy girl raises her head again. But hey, I shouldn't apologise for loving (and being worried) about my characters. We ALL do right?

I know there will be more edits. I can feel it in my bones that it's not quite there (plus my beta readers and crit buddies need to read it). The thing that has made me feel good is that I've got to the end of these revisions.

And breathe.

Which got me wondering if any of you guys get that feeling? Do you worry about your characters future? Do you hold your breath as you write/edit the final scenes and forget that you know how it ends?

Oh and here's a picture.

Because the Jedi kittens make me smile.

P.S Check out the blog of Matthew Rush today for his guest post by Rachele Alpine who tells us all about the query that got her an agent.

Happy Friday everyone.

Hi Lindsay,

Yes I worry about my characters, but only in the sense that I might be sending out the wrong message to my child readers... a frightening responsibility!

Kind regards, Carole.

I've carried on the worrying about my characters long after I've needed to. They become so real to us that we wonder what happens to them after the story is over. I think if we can make readers wonder the same, we've done a good job.

Congrats on the award and have a great weekend!

Interesting thought about worrying about my characters. I don't really worry about them. I'm more along the line of "what can I through at them next" and "how can they grow from the experience". Though I do know that sometime the story takes over and the outcome is not always what we plan. BTW - Great to hear that you finished the round of edits - I'm looking forward to reading.

I'm a bit like Kirk in how I guide my characters more than worry about them, too.
Great links, thank you and have a great weekend!

Yeah, I worry about my characters--are they acting true to themselves? Are they forgetting crucial things? AKA, am I forgetting crucial things, LOL!

Great Post!!!!!

I hold my breath a lot when I'm writing, for some reason (literally!). I have to remind myself to breathe.

Hope you're having a great weekend!

Been there, done that. I think it's just because we get so close to our writing--sometimes almost too close. It's similar to the feeling of having to finish a book you really love, only this time, it's your book and your characters! Scary. Good luck with the rest of it!

Thanks to everyone for reminding me I'm not alone in this crazy thought process of writing. It's also nice to hear the other side of it.

Maybe I should rub my hands together occasionally and wonder what I can throw at my MC next. Ooh, evil plans forming for future works :)
