A Multi-task World.

I've been working like a demonica (that's my own version of a female demon. lol.) on more edits to my completed MS over the weekend...and most of last week between WriteOnCon.

I've also been working on the wip.

I've never really been one to work on two things at once. I can multi-task with the best of them, but multi-write scared me. I worried I'd get confused with the characters, plot, and all the rest. Perhaps it helps that I've finished the first MS. I doubt I could write two at once...perhaps I shouldn't limit myself. A girl who can eat chocolate, type, watch TV and text (at the same time) should be able to do anything she wants. :)

Then it hit me - as it always does when I think too much - we multi-task every single day. We work/study, have family, friends. Some of you have those little, and not so little, kidlets. We're CP, beta readers, alpha readers, book readers, bloggers, tweeters, and we write. We search for agents, we query, we join forums. We even manage the odd few hours of sleep.

Did I overwhelm you there?

How do we manage it?  My answer is love. I love writing, blogging, and being a CP. I get to be creative, and hopefully helpful, every day. I'm even getting into tweeting.

So here is to you. The brave writers who steal frantic moments to write between mealtimes, the school run, and the myriad of daily chores. Here's to us. The brave little toasters who listen to the stories in our heads. Who isolate ourselves behind a keyboard for love. The love of writing. :)

Oh, and don't forget to join me for Jen's fantastic Guess That Character blogfest this Thursday and Friday. Sign up here to join in the fun.

Weird, you had a new post but it wasn't showing up in my blogroll. Google Reader has been very naughty lately, but I don't know how to live without it. Sigh.

I can multi-task like a crazy woman at work. Ok, I can do it at home too, but I don't LIKE doing it at home. I like doing one thing at a time. But that's just impossible. So sometimes I get grumpy when I really want to write/read/clean/play with the kids and am forced to do something ELSE.

Lindsay you are the best!! Thank so much for the shout-out :) You made me feel loved!

I multi-task like the best of them, both in the real world and the wip world. I have four stories brewing in my head and a few others that are tucked away in notebooks but wanting to bust out. My only problem is I don't have enough time to get to them all. Such a bummer!

Yay for multi-tasking - you're right, there's no way I could handle doing this if I didn't love it. :)
P.S. I'm so excited for the blogfest - it'll be great to see how everything turns out!

Multi-tasking is just part of life. Now, to find that perfect balance that allows us to do all we want to.

I read a study that when we multitask, we don't do any task very well. But I still do it. The closest I've come to multitasking is doing rewrites on two manuscripts at the same time. That was okay because I already ha the voices worked out. I worry with rough drafts, I'll screw up voice. But every writer has a different way to doing things, so there's no right way.

Good luck!

I do do a lot of things. And I'm decent at most of them, but I CAN'T do more than one at once. I'm just terrible at focusing.

I don't often do just one thing at once. The kids always laugh and say I never 'watch' tv, I only 'listen' because I always have my laptop or book out.

How did the multi-writing go? I'm rather scared of writing two stories at once myself so I'm interested to know.

I agree that I multi-task everyday, but working on two books at once would scare me. It takes all I have to focus on just one! And I'm doing Jen's blogfest, too - can't wait to see your entry.

I have days where I feel overwhelmed but mostly, I'm good. I like being busy. I can't even watch a movie without folding clothes or knitting or cleaning or something.
