We All Go A Little Mad Sometimes.

So we write.

Our family and friends know we write.

They've endured hours of us laughing to ourselves, talking to 'pretend' people, being distant, irritated, and glaring at them if they so much as interrupt out time with the device super glued to our fingers (a.k.a the laptop).

They even, if we let them, read our work.

But sometimes I look at their glazing eyes, the sigh as I say "I wrote this scene last night..."and wonder what they think of us as we tap away on our fictional worlds. Then the answer came in this post from Veronica Roth.

So I say hurrah for characters who wake me up in the night. The plot points which disturb me during mealtimes. The hair pulling frustration which accompanies editing.

It may be a mad world, but I can't imagine any other world than the one I'm in.

How about you?

This is so true. I hate when people go, 'huh?' after I tell them that I'd rather stay home and wrte than tear it up at a nightclub.

We are weird. That is why we're awesome :)

Great post! And Veronica definitely nailed it with hers!

Hmm. My teenage daughter is the only other one in the family who writes. Sadly, we still only slightly get each other. It's okay though.

I am surrounded by people who don't get it. Guess that's why I enjoy the blogging community so much! You guys make me feel almost normal. Almost:)

It's a mad world, but we love it because it is just...well...fabulous.
I feel sorry for those who don't get the rush of being interrupted by a character or idea. It's amazing.

I'm going mad Right. Now!

And I definitely agree with you: can't imagine my life without this deranged habit--I mean hobby--I mean career. *sigh*

I giggled at one of Veronica's commenters: *cuddles novel*

Writers are some of the quirkiest, fun people I've ever met. I love it!

I'm with ya! I just wish there were more writers in my non-cyber life, so I would feel less weird and more understood, on a day-to-day basis.

Thank God for the Internet!

Oh how I wish there were more people in my life who "got-it". I'm thankful for everyone I have met online--those who keep me half sane. LoL

It is not an easy way to live life- my mind is always half there, half here even when I’m not at my desk. And I know it sounds a little bizarre to other people.
We’re a little weird but we kind of have to be, we are writers :)
it’s not like I can do anything else, writing is the only thing I’m good at.

The thing for me is that I've never been normal - I don't even know what it feels like. I stick out in my family, so... it's not strange to them when I do/say really odd things. Abnormal is normal, so to speak. I get REALLY weird looks from new friends, though. :D

I agree, non-writers just don't seem to really 'get' us most times. But, I wouldn't have it any other way either.

Thank God for my husband who is also creative - he writes scripts and directs films. Still, sometimes too crazy people in the house is not good together! :)

I completely agree. A world without all of those things would dull. :)

Agreed. :)

I haven't had any time to write these past few months while toiling away on an additional work project and I feel like a part of me is missing. Cannot wait to return to the madness.

I can relate to this post, and so can many writers, I"m sure.

Even if receiving critiques and querying is hard, I can't imagine life without writing either. I don't think I could stop if I thought I wanted to.

I'll check out the link.

I love the writing life, scuba diving in the morning, herding cattle in the afternoon. What other career can do that? :)

That blog post was awesome. Yes, I agree with the others, that this is why I love the blogging community so much. We can relate to each other (which saves my dear husband from having me babble about book stuff)

I know I zone out and get that glazed look when I am working out some sort of plot or character knot. And people are always asking me if I'm all right! Yes, I am, just off in my writer dreamland.

I completely agree and you're right... I wouldn't have it any other way!
